WHAT IS A VERB?
Sunday, January 23, 2011
When we want to talk about something, we try to make sentences.
And every sentence in English, it must have a verb.
e.g.
- She eats pizza.
- They go to Bali.
- I am a student.
- She is beautiful.
- Father has written a letter.
Verb is divided into two types:
- Regular Verb
Every verb that it is just followed by -ed.
e.g.
Verb 1 : Work, Study, Play
Verb 2 : Worked, Studied, Played
Verb 3 : Worked, Studied, Played
- Irregular Verb
To know about Irregular Verb, we need to memorize it all because there is no formula or pattern to change the verb between verb 1 until verb 3.
e.g.
Verb 1 : Eat, Begin, Do, Get
Verb 2 : Ate, Began, Did, Got
Verb 3 : Eaten, Begun, Done, Gotten
According to teflpedia.com there are some 360 irregular verbs in total, only around 90 of these can be considered essential, including some of the most common, everyday verbs.
So, just try to memorize the common irregular verbs in English to make us be able to make some sentences when we want to speak.
Good Luck :)
